Exercise: Ramp Rush Mastery
Exercise Description
Ramp rushing is one of the most essential building techniques in Fortnite. It allows you to gain high ground quickly while protecting yourself from enemy fire. Mastering ramp rushes gives you a huge advantage in both offensive pushes and defensive plays, especially during rotations or build fights.
Step-by-Step
- Load the Practice Map
Use this code to load into Coach Philip's Practice Map:
Map Code: 1610-6883-6388 - Basic Ramp Rush (Single Ramp)
Start by selecting your ramp piece. While running forward, look slightly upward and place ramps in a smooth motion.
Jump as you reach the edge of each ramp to maintain forward momentum and build height efficiently. - Double Ramp Rush
Once comfortable with single ramps, place a second ramp beside the first as you move up. This provides more coverage and is harder for enemies to shoot down. - Add Walls for Protection
After building ramps, add walls in front of each ramp to block incoming shots from enemies in front of you. Practice switching quickly between ramp and wall pieces. - Ramp-Wall-Floor Combo
For maximum structural stability, add a floor piece beneath your ramp after placing the wall. This advanced pattern makes your push much harder to break down and is crucial in high-level play.
Skill Focus
- Building Speed & Rhythm: Improve your flow and timing while ramping.
- Crosshair Placement: Build accurately by maintaining the right angle and direction.
- Material Efficiency: Practice efficient use of materials and recognize when to use simpler or more protective variations depending on the situation.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Looking too far downward, which causes ramps to misplace or stall your push.
- Forgetting to add protective pieces, leaving you exposed to easy shots.
- Not practicing fast enough to simulate real-game pacing.
- Ignoring material use—always track your resources in fights.
Final Tip
Start slow to build consistency. Once you're confident with each step, increase your speed to match real-game pressure. With repetition, ramp rushing will become second nature and give you a major edge in competitive situations.
