Exercise: Triple Edit Mastery

Triple edits are an advanced Fortnite building mechanic that allow you to move vertically while maintaining speed, protection, and control. While they are not required in every fight, learning triple edits will significantly improve your build fluidity and overall confidence when freebuilding or pushing opponents.

Important: Before attempting this exercise, make sure you are already comfortable with double edits. Triple edits build directly on that foundation.

Exercise Description

A triple edit consists of three actions performed in quick succession: a double edit, followed by placing and editing a wall. The key to executing this smoothly is strong muscle memory, minimal crosshair movement, and controlled pacing.

This exercise focuses on learning the correct setup, improving timing, and gradually increasing speed until triple edits feel natural.

Setup

  • Load into any Creative freebuild map where you can build freely
  • Enable unlimited materials
  • Use normal movement speed or crouch if needed for control

Step-by-Step

  • 1. Set up a Double Edit: Place a ramp with a floor and cone above it, just like a standard double edit setup.
  • 2. Perform the Double Edit: Edit through the floor and cone using a single-tile edit on each piece. Keep your crosshair steady and centered.
  • 3. Place the Wall: Immediately after exiting the double edit, place a wall in front of you.
  • 4. Edit the Wall: Edit the wall using a quick window or corner edit to pass through.
  • 5. Repeat Slowly: Start crouched or walking slowly to focus on accuracy and timing before increasing speed.

Skill Focus

This exercise improves:

  • Crosshair placement and precision
  • Editing speed and consistency
  • Build flow and movement control
  • Muscle memory for advanced mechanics

Practice Progression

Start by performing a single triple edit at a controlled pace. Once consistent, begin chaining them:

  • Perform one triple edit every two ramps
  • Then progress to one triple edit every ramp
  • Gradually increase speed over multiple sessions

Focus on moving your crosshair as little as possible. The less adjustment you make, the faster and more consistent your edits will become.

In-Game Application

In real matches, triple edits are rarely needed more than once or twice in a row. They are most useful when pushing height, taking walls, or transitioning into an edit-and-shot play. While they can look flashy, consistency and control matter far more than speed.

Practice this exercise regularly in Creative, and aim for clean execution rather than rushing. Over time, triple edits will feel like a natural extension of your double edits.
