How to Stop Getting Third-Partied in Fortnite

If you’re constantly getting eliminated by third parties during your Fortnite matches, it’s not just bad luck — it’s often a result of poor positioning and decision-making. The good news? There’s a fix.

In this guide, we’ll break down how to avoid getting third-partied in both early game and mid game, so you can survive longer and take better fights.

Early Game: Survive Off-Spawn

  • 1. Land on the Edge of Your POI: Avoid landing directly in the middle of a city or hotspot. When you land on the edges, you're less likely to get swarmed and can rotate in or out depending on how the fight plays out.
  • 2. Fight on the Outskirts: If you hear players fighting nearby, rotate around the outer edges and look to third-party after one player is cracked or eliminated. Don’t jump in too early — let them weaken each other first.
  • 3. Create an Escape Route When you’re on the outside, it’s easier to disengage if the fight doesn’t go your way. You’ll have more space and better vision to avoid surprise attackers.

Mid Game: Play Smart, Not Loud

  • 1. Rotate to Dead SideStay on the edge of the storm circle, also known as the “dead side.” Fewer players rotate here, which allows you to take more isolated and safer fights.
  • 2. Do a 360 Before Every Fight Before you start a fight, quickly look around in a full circle to spot potential third parties. If someone’s sneaking up, it’s better to know before you start fighting.
  • 3. Fight Fast and Efficiently The longer a fight drags on, the higher the chance someone else hears it and comes to third-party. Learn to finish fights quickly and cleanly to reduce this risk.
  • 4. Always Check for Mats Before Fighting Make sure you have enough building materials before engaging. If you run out mid-fight or during a third party, you’ll be an easy elimination.

Final Tips

  • Finish fights fast. If you're struggling with this, check out tutorials on fast eliminations.
  • Don’t get greedy — disengage when it’s smarter to do so.
  • Always assume someone else is listening. Be prepared to box up and heal immediately after a fight.
