How to Play Scrims
What Are Scrims and Why They Matter
Scrims—short for scrimmages—are custom matches where competitive players gather in Discord servers to play against each other in structured formats like Solo, Duo, or Squad. Prefaced by countdowns or custom matchmaking codes, these lobbies enable high-level practice beyond typical matchmaking and simulate tournament conditions.
1. How to Join Scrims
Scrims are hosted through discord servers. The main discord server for EU Region is called Elite Scrims and the main server for NA players is called NA Opens.
Step by Step:
- Google the discord server and join
- Go to the #verification channel
- Follow the steps to get approved
- If you completed everything you will now see the channels: #solo-keys, duo-keys etc
2. Joining a Scrim Game
- Go to the channel #solo keys or duos, trios
- Check when the next game starts in the chat
- When its time to start you will see a message with a hand below. You will need to react to this message by clicking the hand
- Then wait to receive a friend request in fortnite from the Yunite Bot
- Invite the Yunite Bot to your party and promote him
- He will now enter the custom code and leave again
- Make sure you have the correct mode selected: Battle Royale Tournament Mode (If not, search for it)
- Before you play, make sure you check the rules so you don't get banned! Usually you are allowed to fight off spawn until 80 people are alive, then stop, fighting restarts around 4th Zone Closed.
Scrim Objectives & Best Practices:
- Landing Phase: Secure loot quickly—aim for full shields and 250+ building materials like wood and brick
- Midgame: Secure good loot and full mates, then look to get a good position in storm
- Watch my Youtube Masterclass on how to rotate
3. Why Scrims Help You Improve
Faster Feedback: Rapid exposure to high-level strategies, rotations, and game sense
Skills Under Pressure: Builds muscle memory for building, editing, and fighting in heated scenarios
Tactical Learning: Practice scanning opponents, timing rotations, and adapting loadouts in real-time
Final Tip
Always prioritize positioning over eliminations. A well-positioned player with fewer kills often outplaces aggressive players with poor positioning.
